Reclaim My Skin
Marie Clements’ Reclaim My Skin is a tour-de-force, weaving stunning musical dramatizations with powerful interviews to reveal how Indigenous women and Two-Spirit people lost their power through colonization and how they have been raising their voices through activism, political engagement and the arts to reclaim their rightful place. In this three-part documentary, Clements hones in on key moments following the European colonization of Turtle Island, exposing the strategies used to undermine matriarchal and Two-Spirit systems within Indigenous communities. She explores how contemporary artists and activists are reclaiming their past and seizing their own future. The documentary features performances by renowned musicians including Pura Fé and Laura Grizzlypaws, along with powerful reflections from notable voices that include Tanya Talaga, Joy Harjo-Sapulpa, Cindy Blackstock, Louise Wakerahkats:te Herne, Michelle Schenandoah, and Gloria Steinem in one of her final interviews.
